a cute cat with a tired look.

While it’s easy to love cats all year long, December just happens to be the official Cat Lovers Month. Now is the time to really celebrate the species that comforts us, makes us laugh, and gives our lives extra meaning.

Double the Fun

Cat Lovers Month creates an opportunity for us to acknowledge all that cats bring to our lives, while at the same time look for ways to improve feline welfare. Whether you’re a longtime owner of cats or simply a person who adores them, Cat Lovers Month is for you.

Get Some New Goodies

If you’re looking for another reason to spoil your cat, the time is now. Buy that expensive cat bed you’ve been looking at, splurge on some new toys, grow some catnip on your kitchen windowsill, and bake some delicious homemade cat treats. These things enrich your cat’s day to day well-being, and strengthen the bond you already have.

Give them new opportunities to stalk, hunt, hide, ambush, and run, and watch the good times roll. While the goal is fun, exercise and enrichment can reduce stress and boredom, and up the feline health-o-meter.

Go Cat Bananas!

For those cat lovers who are also very social, host a cat-themed party or a movie night for films with cats (there are so many to choose from!). You could also:

  • Print and send photos of your cat to your best friends and family members
  • Have a cat cafe event in a beautiful, fully-fenced backyard or indoor event space
  • Join cat groups online
  • Write in a journal about your cat’s journey from birth (if you know) to where they are today.
  • Attend or host a cat art night where you paint a cat portrait.

Doing Good for the Sake If It

There are many ways that cat lovers can make a difference in the lives of cats, such as:

  • Volunteering at a no-kill shelter
  • Fostering kittens
  • Helping out at animal food drives
  • Raising awareness on social media on the importance of spaying/neutering, microchipping, dental care, and routine wellness checks

If you can, and want to, adopting a cat is an incredible way to effect change in your community. You’re not only saving a life by adopting a shelter cat, but you’re essentially freeing up a bed in the shelter for another cat.

Happy Cat Lovers Month

You know your cat the best. Give them what they want and need, and sit back and enjoy the fruits of your generosity, understanding, and appreciation.

Celebrating Cat Lovers Month is a small way to support the wider movement that people are a part of to raise up, embrace, and support excellent cat care, advocacy, and responsibility.
