Your dog might exhibit the following:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Coughing<\/li><li>Sneezing<\/li><li>Runny nose<\/li><li>Watery eyes<\/li><li>Napping more than usual<\/li><li>And even though he can\u2019t tell us, his throat may be sore as well.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These dog cold symptoms could be the result of a simple cold virus, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parksidevet.ca\/services\/dermatology.html\">allergies<\/a>, or they could point to a more serious condition, such as kennel cough. Be on the lookout for escalating symptoms, such as loss of appetite, vomiting, fever, or diarrhea, which warrant an immediate call to your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parksidevet.ca\/staff\/\">veterinarian<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Comfort Care for Your Canine\u2019s Cold<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If your dog is displaying mild dog cold symptoms, be sure he has plenty of water nearby and allow him to rest as much as he needs to.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He may find comfort from a humidifier, or you can allow him in the bathroom while you shower so that the steam can loosen his congestion.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use a soft cloth or tissue to wipe his runny eyes and nose, and isolate him from other pets in the household.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Diagnosing Other Conditions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If he doesn\u2019t improve or his symptoms worsen, the best thing to do is schedule an examination so that we can properly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parksidevet.ca\/services\/diagnostic-ultrasound.html\">diagnose<\/a> his condition. A variety of other illnesses can cause similar symptoms, including the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Environmental or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parksidevet.ca\/blog\/if-your-dog-has-a-pollen-allergy-would-you-know\/\">pollen allergies<\/a>&nbsp;<\/li><li>Kennel cough, a respiratory infection. If your dog is coughing forcefully, contact us immediately.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Canine distemper, but most dogs are vaccinated against this during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parksidevet.ca\/services\/wellness-preventive-care.html\">routine visits<\/a>. If you are unsure of your dog\u2019s vaccination status, contact us.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prevention is Key<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To boost your dog\u2019s health year round and minimize his chances of becoming ill, follow these tips from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parksidevet.ca\/staff\/\">our team<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Stay up-to-date with vaccines: Vaccines are available to protect dogs from kennel cough, parvo, distemper, leptospirosis, canine influenza, and other illnesses.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Clean their belongings: Toys, and food and water bowls can harbor bacteria. Be sure to clean them regularly, especially if they share with other pets.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Feed him a quality diet: Good nutrition is a natural immune booster for all of us!
