Seasonal changes affect pets, too, from allergies to warmer temperatures that pose risks.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To better prepare you and your four-legged for the upcoming spring, here are some recommendations to alleviate some of the seasonal effects. Read on for more information.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seasonal Allergies in Pets<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Like us, seasonal allergies pick up as the weather warms and plants, trees, and shrubs go into full bloom. These pollens and spores can create several symptoms in pets, depending upon how allergic they are. Reactions to allergies can produce:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nasal discharge<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Watering of the eyes<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coughing<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sneezing<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chronic scratching<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rubbing face&nbsp;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chewing&nbsp; paws and legs<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Allergens can also include mold and dust and occur more severely during the transition into spring (and sometimes fall). Untreated allergies can result in secondary infections, fur loss, skin problems, and so on.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Warm Weather Awareness for Pets<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another issue to be aware of is warm weather. If your pet is outdoors, warm, sunny days can put them at risk of sunburn or heat exhaustion, depending on your pet\u2019s tolerance. When it is warm, be mindful of how much time your dog spends exercising outside. Opt for mornings, before the noonday sun is high.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of course, never leave your pet inside the car. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.parksidevet.ca\/blog\/pet-emergency\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heat exhaustion and hyperthermia <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">can occur in a matter of minutes with temperatures over 30 C degrees. As a matter of fact, when it is 30 degrees outside your car\u2019s internal temperature to soar to well over 70. Always bring your pet with you or keep them at home, if you cannot.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parasites Among Us<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.parksidevet.ca\/blog\/tick-season-is-here-are-you-ready\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parasites like fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can survive (and thrive) year-round. But with the warming temperatures, they are out in droves. These pests that annoy us can put your pet at risk of diseases carried by parasites, including heartworm, Lyme disease, ehrlichiosis, and leptospirosis.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maintain your pet\u2019s parasite protection, including flea, tick, and heartworm control, throughout the year.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plants that Are Poisonous to Pets<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This time of year is when you and your four-legged spend more time outdoors. This includes planting your favorite plants in the garden, along with shrubs and trees. There are a few toxic plants to be aware of, like azalea, oleander, lilies, crocus and daffodils, yew, and sago palm. Consult the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspca.org\/pet-care\/animal-poison-control\/toxic-and-non-toxic-plants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ASPCA\u2019s list of toxic plants<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to avoid putting your pet at risk.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Several types of mulches, such as cocoa, as well as fertilizers containing Metaldehyde (Slug Bait) are also quite toxic. Opt for natural pet-friendly, fertilizers and amenders.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seasonal Changes Affect Pets<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The spring season is on the way and that\u2019s exciting for outdoor lovers.
