On top of all your own necessities to deal with the great outdoors, you have to pack all of their gear, food, toys, and bedding, too. However, one of the most important items isn\u2019t something you have to physically bring with you to the campsite. Instead, through your commitment to your pet\u2019s year round parasite prevention, they\u2019ll be totally prepared for what nature has in store.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Into the Lion\u2019s Den<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most people travel to the woods and mountains when camping. Unfortunately, heavily forested areas are prime habitats for ticks, mostly because they prey on roaming deer and other animals. Lying in wait for their next blood meal, ticks can quickly attach themselves to your dog\u2019s legs, paws, belly, or tail. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Better Safe Than Sorry<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At your pet\u2019s routine <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.parksidevet.ca\/services\/wellness-preventive-care.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">wellness exam<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> we address their lifestyle and potential exposure to bothersome fleas, heartworm-spreading mosquitoes, and of course, ticks. All pets (even indoor-only ones) should be protected from disease, and the best way to do that is through vaccinations and parasite prevention.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bonus Bug Killers<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to your pet\u2019s oral or topical parasite prevention medication taking out external bugs, internal parasites like hookworms, roundworms, whipworms, and tapeworms are also effectively handled. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ticks Are Downright Bad<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the surface, ticks can cause skin irritation, but if they\u2019re allowed to hang out on your pet\u2019s skin for a day or more, if they have the bacteria that causes Lyme disease, your pet may as well. Equally terrible are diseases like anaplasmosis, ehrlichiosis, and Rocky Mountain Spotted fever \u2013 all transmitted by ticks. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keeping It Real<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once your pet\u2019s parasite prevention is underway, there\u2019s still more to do regarding your camping trip, such as:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keep your pet\u2019s coat nice and trim to reduce a tick\u2019s opportunity to cling onto it.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Closely inspect your pet\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.parksidevet.ca\/services\/wellness-preventive-care.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">skin and coat<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> every day during the trip.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bring along a tick key and a pet first aid kit.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Discourage your dog from running around off-leash (this can protect the from dangerous run-ins with predators as well as inhibits them from exploring overgrown, bushy areas that are popular with ticks).<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bring a pet-safe insect repellent to keep bugs at bay.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parasite Prevention and You<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are many ways you can be proactive about your pet\u2019s parasite prevention, like apps, simple calendar reminders, and more.
